The Austin Eye Group practices comprehensive ophthalmology while specializing in laser vision correction (iLASIK), cataract and refractive lens procedures.
Dr. Odette, a graduate of University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, completed his residency at the Mason Eye Clinic at the University of Missouri where he achieved excellence in cataract surgery, minor oculoplastic surgery, medical retina, pediatrics and glaucoma while becoming chief resident his final year. He is also certified on the VISX and Intralase lasers to perform iLASIK and PRK procedures. During his residency he completed research in the area of Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) and presented his work at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in 2009. A research paper with his work is currently pending for publication.
During John’s career as a LASIK surgeon in Austin he has also enjoyed doing volunteer medical work in underserved countries such as Nicaragua, Mexico, Ecuador, and Peru. He enjoys traveling and plans to continue work with the underserved. John and his loving wife Karen, who was also a UTMB graduate in Physical Therapy, returned to Texas following his residency where he joined the team of ophthalmologists at Austin Eye.
